“There was a time when many senators considered themselves statesman first, and partisans second”. Lucas Wittman ~Time.
Voting for this return in our upcoming election provides an opportunity to reinstate not only clarity, civility, and respect to our government but safety and growth for all of us..

Joe Biden and John McCain were colleagues and friends, their friendship dating back to the 1970s, when Biden was a young senator and Captain McCain …
John McCain and Joe Biden’s Friendship Shows Us How Politics is Supposed to Work
Sad how things have deteriorated this last 4 years in terms of civility and honesty

I agree, but I think the deterioration had been building up in the years (some might even say “decades”) prior to the 2016 election. Considering the hysterical reaction on the part of some Americans when Barack Obama won the 2008 Presidential race, I’d say that the loss of civility and honesty came to a head with Trump’s election.
But, yes. The incivility and dishonesty got worse over the past four years.

I think there is truth in this. I think the 2016 election ( and the last 4 years) in some ways made permissible much of what we see across our nation. We , in my opinion, have a long road ahead.

Thank goodness for today’s good news. It’ll be a long road ahead to healing but at least it’s a start and no more of the same from the last four years!

I so agree ♥️. It is an incredible relief. It will be a long road but it is the right road. Sending you all the best as we take in this day.

I was literally watching John McCain’s concession speech from 2008 today! I got teary eyed and had goosebumps, just thinking how easily these past four years got us to forget what decent men and women with integrity look like. Hopefully the country can move forward united and put country first, not cause more division over a man who never cared about anyone else in the first place.

Trump brings out the worst of our society. It will be hard to reverse that.

It will be a long journey. A needed one, but a difficult one. There has been incredible harm and unearthed ugliness. I sadly, agree that it will. I’m holding hope🤍.

My late husband was an advisor to the late John McCain. I always admired him very much. McCain kindly wrote an introduction to my husband’s posthumously published autobiography, Wisdom from a Chair.
I believe the Republican party has lost its soul. For much of my life, I was an independent but have been a registered Democrat for about 20 years. I remember a time where there was cooperation between the parties. Biden, with his message of unity, seems to be the healing change we need.
Thank you, LaDonna, for an inspiring post about the friendship between McCain and Biden. ❤

Cheryl,
What a wonderful way for your husband to have spent time, and a true compliment to your husband’s autobiography. I wholeheartedly agree, John McCain was (is) an admirable individual. The Republican party and our political system lost a voice of informed reason. I, too, am hopeful that our new administration can lead us out of the dark days of the Trump presidency and restore faith and confidence in our leadership. I would like to read your husband’s autobiography, I expect it must be very interesting.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday Cheryl. Be safe and well. 🤍

LaDonna, seeing Joe Biden comfort Megan McCain on The View when her father was dying reveals the character of the president. John McCain’s book “A Restless Wave” is a great read. Keith
