    1. I agree, but I think the deterioration had been building up in the years (some might even say “decades”) prior to the 2016 election. Considering the hysterical reaction on the part of some Americans when Barack Obama won the 2008 Presidential race, I’d say that the loss of civility and honesty came to a head with Trump’s election.

But, yes. The incivility and dishonesty got worse over the past four years.

  1. I was literally watching John McCain’s concession speech from 2008 today! I got teary eyed and had goosebumps, just thinking how easily these past four years got us to forget what decent men and women with integrity look like. Hopefully the country can move forward united and put country first, not cause more division over a man who never cared about anyone else in the first place.

  2. My late husband was an advisor to the late John McCain. I always admired him very much. McCain kindly wrote an introduction to my husband’s posthumously published autobiography, Wisdom from a Chair.

I believe the Republican party has lost its soul. For much of my life, I was an independent but have been a registered Democrat for about 20 years. I remember a time where there was cooperation between the parties. Biden, with his message of unity, seems to be the healing change we need.

Thank you, LaDonna, for an inspiring post about the friendship between McCain and Biden. ❤

    1. Cheryl,

What a wonderful way for your husband to have spent time, and a true compliment to your husband’s autobiography. I wholeheartedly agree, John McCain was (is) an admirable individual. The Republican party and our political system lost a voice of informed reason. I, too, am hopeful that our new administration can lead us out of the dark days of the Trump presidency and restore faith and confidence in our leadership. I would like to read your husband’s autobiography, I expect it must be very interesting.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday Cheryl. Be safe and well. 🤍

  3. LaDonna, seeing Joe Biden comfort Megan McCain on The View when her father was dying reveals the character of the president. John McCain’s book “A Restless Wave” is a great read. Keith
